Artifacts (2019). The images for the project were created using a flatbed scanner. Individual scans were composited together to create a full representation of my body. Each of these pieces carries evidence of the process in which they were made. The colorful aberrations, the distortion, and the extreme light fall-off all result from scanning. Because of the time it takes to capture each scan, small movements like my breath and the shake of my muscles are recorded as wavy lines and interruptions in the image.
I am using the act of scanning and building each piece to highlight the position I am in as both creator and subject. Hardly impartial, I am able to lay claim to the representation of my own body and who I am.
